Offer of place

Today I got the results from my exchange application. It was an offer of place from the University of Akureyri.

My first spontaneous thought was "Damn, I wanted to go to Reykjavik" but on the other hand, I should consider myself for getting a spot at all, especially my second choice which is pretty good. Either way, it's not the most joyous moment in my life. There are som good and less good things about going to specifically Akureyri:

Good

- The nature is absolutely ASTONISHING and I'm dying to get there to hike, ride horses and breathe fresh air
- In such a small community there are entirely different conditions regarding getting to know locals
- Living in a smaller town abroad would be a good contrast to Auckland (over a million)
- Living there would not (most likely) result in as much partying as it does in bigger cities, I'm sure I'd spend more time and money for travelling and exploring
- The season for Northern Lights goes on until May, which gives me a few months to chase the mysterious light beams. In this case, living in the middle of nowhere is a huge advantage.

Less good

- Ok, let's face it. Only 18k people live in Akureyri, and even for me (small town girl as I am) consider that as a VERY small town
- The average temperature is very low, and I'll be freezing my ass off for a couple of months. On the other hand I lived in a warm country for a whole year, so why not freeze for a bit?

That's about it, these are my thoughts right now concerning Akureyri, Iceland. I know I will go there, but I still need some time, if only a few hours, to have my doubts and think about the negative variables in going there.

This is all, of course, very exciting!
